Shaykhul-Islaam Ibnu Taymiyah (may Allaah envelop him with His mercy) said:
” … And that is why the best land (to reside in) in relation to each individual is a land in which he will be more obedient to Allaah and His Messenger. And this will vary according to different circumstances.
And there is no specific land in which it is better for the person to reside. Rather, what is better for each individual is in accordance with taqwa (piety), obedience, reverence, submission and presence of mind (in worshiping Allaah).
And indeed Abu Ad-Dardaa wrote to Salmaan saying:
“Come to the Sacred Land (the land of Ash-Shaam).” Salmaan wrote back to him: “Verily the land does not honour/purify anyone. It is rather the slave’s actions that honour/purify him. “
